Setting up a custom email sender domain

By default, survey invite emails are sent from no-reply@shopsurvey.app. This is a verified mail server with a positive sending reputation. Suppose you'd like to send surveys from your domain name. You can configure those settings from the Email Setup page, but you'll need access to your domain's DNS records.

The first step is to provide the domain name you want to use. Next, you need to enter the mail subdomain. We set this to be mail by default, and that's likely a good subdomain for you, too. (You could also use surveys, etc.).

The Mail Subdomain is separate from your root domain so that we can set up a custom MX record without interfering with any MX records you likely have set up on your root domain for standard mailbox functionality.

Once you've added your domain and mail subdomain, you can click "Add Custom Domain," You will then be provided the DNS records you need to add to your DNS provider.

Once you've saved your DNS settings, return to ShopSurvey and verify your domain connection. Please note that it may take 24 to 48 hours for your DNS changes to propagate fully. If it's been more than 48 hours and your domain isn't connected, please contact us for assistance from the Support page.

Sender Identities

After adding a custom domain, you can add multiple Sender identities from the Email Setup page. Later on, when you're editing an email template or setting up an email-based survey, you will choose from your saved Sender Identities which one the email should look like it's coming from: e.g. Research Team <research@mycustomdomain.com>.
